Off to the Driving Range

Ellie got golf clubs for Christmas, and Jason has been dying to take her to the driving range. When we had some free time and good weather, the whole family decided to tag along. Ellie looked adorable carrying her golf bag! As we walked up to clubhouse to get a bucket of balls, Ellie saw another little girl playing golf with her dad. The little girl had on a cute golf skirt, which Ellie immediately noticed, and so she said to Jason, "Dad, next time we come to play golf, you need to get me a cute golf skirt. Okay?" That's my girl.

We had a nice time hitting golf balls, for the first 5 minutes. But Ellie soon lost interest and played in the grass by the fountain or with Max, until Jason finished up the bucket of balls. The bucket was a large bucket, so Ellie was losing her patience by the end. By the time the bucket was finally empty, we were in melt down city. As we walked to the car, Ellie screamed, "I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME!" Even though she didn't want to play golf anymore either. Jason and I just put our heads down and quietly walked to the car, with our screaming daughter trailing behind us.

After we got in the car and started for home, we tried to talk to Ellie about her behavior, and how that is not how you act at the golf course. Jason said to her, "Ellie, if you act like that again, you're not going to be able to come to the golf course anymore." To which Ellie replied, "I don't want to come to the golf course anymore." I could almost hear Jason's heart breaking.

I'm happy to report, though, that there have been other trips to the driving range with Ellie, and she actually seems to enjoy it. Jason usually opts for the smaller bucket of balls now though.
